"Chora is both cosmic place and abstract space, and is also the substance of the human crafts. In architecture it would undermine the common distinction (that in fact dates from only the nineteenth century!) between contained space and material container. Most importantly, it would point to an "invisible ground" that exists beyond the linguistic identity of Being and Becoming, of words and world, of signifier and signified, while also making language and culture possible in the fist place. It is the "region" of that which exists. The problem, as Plato emphasizes, is that its presence and reality can be graspedonly with great difficulty, obliquely so to speak, through a kind of 'bastard reasoning...'"

Since the title of the play has been announced as
Chora, space, I thought I would post a link to this rather long article that discusses the history of the idea of
chora in relation to making, in case it interests anyone, from Plato through to Jacques Derrida.
